UPDATE ON CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS AND HEALTHCARE

DC 37 family,

We met with the City on Thursday, Dec. 1 for a second round of collective bargaining. Among the key issues discussed were vacancies, pay increases and a telecommuting policy. Though the City indicated it is not open to telecommuting, we will continue to push for a realistic policy that meets the flexibility required of today’s workplace. Of most importance is getting you the raise you deserve.

As expected, one of the biggest topics of conversation was how to pay for healthcare. While we hope to secure a contract for you by the end of the year, we need the City Council to amend Administrative Code 12-126. Updating this code is necessary to protect both retired and active members from paying premiums and losing choice in their healthcare options. I’m afraid the City will take drastic measures to rein in healthcare costs if the City Council doesn’t act soon.

This moment is one of the greatest challenges for our union. Will you join the fight by calling or sending an email to your City Council member today? Enter your address here to find your Council Member’s District Office number. Tell them: Protect premium-free healthcare for City employees and amend Administrative Code 12-126!

With your help, we’ll get through this together.

In solidarity,

Henry Garrido
