Longevity Overview

Longevity Differential – A payment, above the base rate of pay, based on years of service in a title or occupational group. This payment does not become part of your base pay. Not every title has a longevity differential. Longevity differentials must be negotiated. Some longevity payments eventually become pensionable, but you should check your contract for more information.

Additional Compensation Fund (ACF) – A negotiated amount of money, over and above the general wage increase, to be distributed among titles according to Unit Contract negotiations. DC 37 Contracts: A glossary of bargaining terms

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about the Longevity

Q: Is the Longevity based on years of service with the MTA and/or City, Agency, or years of service with the union

A: Longevity is based on years of service with DC37. The amount is cumulative based on years of service combined in the Locals (not just 3652)

Q: Is the Longevity party part of my base salary?

A: No

Q: If the Longevity isn’t part of my salary, then is it a lump sum payment?

A: No, it is not a lump sum payment and is part of your salary in your current title.  If your title changes through a promotion or otherwise, then it is not included.

Q: What if I am missing or not sure if I’m entitled to a longevity?

A: Email MTA Director(s) Norman Jenkins or NYCT Director Danielle Brogan for assistance and cc: the union at [email protected]. Provide yojur BSC number. It’s o.k. to ask even if you are mistaken. Be sure to get your longevity if you are entitled to it.

Q: Does the MTA Automatically give me my longevity when I’m entitled to it?

A: We heard cases where this is true and where it is not true.  Please do not assume that you will automatically receive a longevity if you are entitled to it. If you believe you are entitled to a longevity, wait 30 days from the day that you believe you are entitled to the longevity prior contacting Norman or Danielle. 

Q: What is the difference between the ACF and the Longevity?  

A: The Longevity is just one part of the ACF.
